the Plastic Design Collection

The Design Museum Brussels online database aims to assist the efforts in conservation, enhancement and accessibility of the Plastic Design Collection, which ranges from small domestic objects to environments entirely made from plastics.

Showcasing an overview of the many possibilities and outcomes in terms of shapes, surfaces and properties of these synthetic materials, it gives the opportunity to explore not only currently exhibited works, but also the objects that are currently in the museum’s storerooms.

It provides access to the information gathered during the continuous research into the collection and the history of plastic materials as heritage, allowing for an increase in exchange of knowledge between institutions, researchers, professionals and the general public.

The digitization of the Plastic Design Collection is a developing project and therefore is constantly implemented. For any inquiries about the project, collaboration opportunities or additional information about an object , please do not hesitate to contact us at collections@designmuseum.brussels
