Goto
During the Venice Biennial in 1995, Gaetano Pesce was invited to the renowned Caffé Florian’s Temporanea exhibition. The designer created an object with a dual function – as both a vase and a glass – inspired by the Venetian tradition of “goto de fornase” (Venetian for “glass from the furnace”). Mass produced in a variety of colours, these pieces became unique as they were carved by hand. In homage to Venice, their irregular surface evoked the shape of the St. Mark’s Lion carnival mask.
